My hobby and specialty is “support”! Interview with Asazuma

First of all, please introduce yourself.

My name is Kumi Asazuma.

I am the representative director of the All Japan Cheer Association, and am also an active freelance announcer and cheerleader.

I have been participating in "Morning Cheer" since 2010 and am still active.

*Cheerleading activities held every Thursday and Friday morning in front of stations in Shinjuku, Shinbashi, Ikebukuro, Korakuen, Sakuragicho, etc. to support office workers and office ladies on their way to work.

Cheering is my hobby! My hobby has become my job!
As for my hobby/special skill, I always answer "cheering" (lol).

We are currently building something called ``Osei-gaku''.
This is because I started cheering through morning cheer activities, and as I was doing these activities, I felt that I was becoming more energetic.

I thought, ``Morning cheer is amazing'' and ``Maybe if everyone did morning cheer, their lives would become more positive?'', but I realized that it was not realistic and actually difficult (it's a high bar, isn't it? lol).

So I thought about morning cheer a little more deeply and broke down the elements of morning cheer.

I think there are many elements to cheer dancing, such as ``waking up early,'' ``doing something different than usual,'' ``smiling,'' ``saying positive things,'' ``continuing,'' ``communicating,'' and ``doing cheerleading.'' Apart from dancing, it was something that anyone could do on a daily basis.

That's why I think the essence is "support."
We do this activity not for the purpose of cheerleading or cheer dancing, but for the purpose of delivering "cheer", and the form of that cheer is dancing while wearing cheer uniforms. I realized that it was about dancing and sending cheers.

So I started thinking about why people feel better when they are cheered on, and what is going on.

This is true in brain science, psychology, quantum mechanics, and the field of happiness studies that I am currently focusing on, and although it is not yet fully established, evidence is gradually emerging.

You may think that you can only support someone if you don't have the resources, but even just liking a friend's post on SNS such as Facebook is an act of support.

At times like this, the brain releases happiness and love hormones such as oxytocin.

So instead of just cheering when I have the time, I can make myself happy by cheering for myself. There are only really good things to say.

Do you ever find yourself signing autographs in your daily activities?

In cheer activities, when we sell goods such as towels and T-shirts after an event, we sometimes receive requests for autographs, so we sometimes add handwritten signatures to the goods.

I also write handwritten signatures when I go on business trips to support them.

We always write the signatures of all the members on colored paper and hand it over to everyone who has made a request, saying, ``We will continue to support you,'' so we also write signatures at the time.

Actually, I'm planning to publish it in the future, but I think I'll get tendonitis if I keep signing the same signature over and over again, so I'd be happy if I had my own signature stamp.

Originally, I used a sign that read Kumi and Kumiccheru in English, but I also like the sign they designed for me because it's cute.

I'm not sure which sign I'll mainly use, but I think the English character "individual type" is cute, so I'd like to use it in the future.

I think Japanese people in particular try to read the atmosphere, for better or for worse, and care about what other people think of them.

If that feeling turns into fear, I think we'll live in a world where it's difficult to challenge what we really want to do.

Therefore, I wonder how much more energetic people would be able to work hard if there was an atmosphere within the organization where people would support them.

I believe that support begins with a feeling of compassion.
The first step is to fundamentally say, ``Let's be kind to others'' and ``Have compassion for others,'' and beyond that, the methods of support vary depending on the person.

When I hear the word "cheer", I usually think of it as ``cheering for sports'', but it's true that in everyday life, when someone gives you a boost and says, ``You can do it,'' or when you listen to someone's story while approving of them, it's also cheering. .
I feel like the concept of support has changed within me.

Even when I look up the dictionary, the meaning of ``cheering'' doesn't quite sit right with me.

We often hear words like ``assistance'' and ``helping by adding strength,'' but I believe that support is not just about strength, and the form of support changes depending on the person.
